Human Rights

We have a long-standing track record in the identifying and acting upon opportunities for enabling human rights defenders and improving the legislative context in which they work. By providing training, local language materials and access to ongoing mentoring, we have established a strong capability in the CIS region.

Belarus

Working in Belarus since 2000 to provide key human rights law training (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights), materials, training of trainers and advisory support. Partners and participants include lawyers and human rights groups from Ukraine, Moldova as well as Belarus.

Armenia - Azerbaijan - Georgia

Two-year project to develop and deliver European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) training to groups of lawyers, human rights defenders and others across the region. Events in each country and regional events bringing together participants from the three countries. Training packages in local languages as well as English and Russian. Development of regional network of information and inter-organisational learning and support.

BEWC ECHR and ICCPR Manual

Development, and regular post-use revision, by BEWC legal team of a comprehensive manual in English and Russian covering ECHR and ICCPR including case studies and training notes. Rapidly established as a key reference source for practitioners and widely used in the CIS region.

East-West Rights Online

Following the success of the BEWC ECHR Manual, the manual was put into web-based format as part of the BEWC website. More widely this section is under development as a network, source for information and posting of relevant information by CIS participants. More about East-West Rights
